Congratulations to Ada Altieri, a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Physics Laboratory of the École Normale Supérieure (ENS) for winning a 2020 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science program France Young Talents Fellowship.

Professor Esther Duflo, 2019 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, is starting a teaching and research residency at ENS Paris this September.

Scientists from the CNRS and the ENS-PSL(1) in France and Monash University in Australia have shown that the brain suppresses information from the outside world, such as the sound of a conversation, during the sleep phase linked to dreaming. This ability could be one of the protective mechanisms of dreams. The study, carried out in collaboration with the Centre du Sommeil et de la Vigilance, Hôtel-Dieu, AP-HP - Université de Paris, is published in Current Biology.
Physicists from the Laboratory of Physics of ENS (LPENS) and from the Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnologies (C2N) have revealed the exotic quantum properties of anyons, intermediate particles between fermions and bosons. Their work is published in the journal Science and featured on the cover.

This physicist, university professor of the highest rank, is specialized in atomic, molecular and optic physics. She is an active member of several learned societies and is part of the French Commission for UNESCO and the International Basic Science Program of UNESCO. She is also the Counselor for Science and Technology at the French Embassy in Washington, thus contributing to France’s scientific and intellectual influence in the world.
