Other Exchange Programs and Scholarships

The following programs allow international students to study or research at ENS, and allow ENS students and researchers to study or research abroad.

Eiffel Excellence Grants 2022

The Eiffel scholarship was developed by the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs in order to permit French establishments of higher education to attract the best international students in specific study areas, whether at the masters or doctoral level.
 

The scholarship allows French institutions to form future international decision-makers, in both the public and private sectors, with a focus on priority areas of study (political science, engineering, law, and economics and management). It aims to encourage applications from emerging countries for the masters program, and from emerging and developed countries for the doctoral program.

 

The areas of study possible for the Eiffel Scholarship, and taught at ENS are:

Sciences and technology:

  • Biology and Health
  • Ecological Transition
  • Mathematics and Digital
  • Science and Engineering

Humanities and Social Sciences:

  • History, French Language and Civilization
  • Law and Political Sciences
  • Economics and Management

 

FINANCING (2022)

  • Master Level:  Monthly grant amount: 1, 181 € for a maximum of 24 months in M1 and 12 months in M2
  • Doctoral Level: Monthly grant amount: 1, 700 € for a maximum duration of 12 months

 

HOW TO APPLY TO ENS AND THE EIFFEL SCHOLARSHIP

1. Please check your eligibility by reading the Campus France Vademecum 2022.

2. Send your application to the Direction des Relations Internationales (DRI) at the following address: dri@ens.fr

Important information: this application is for the Eiffel scholarship, and not for ENS Master's programs. For Master's admissions, please refer to the relevant pages.

 

Please attach the following documents:

 

  • MASTER’S
  • Photocopy of passport containing the information: surname, first name, date of birth and passport number.
  • Curriculum vitae (in French or in English).
  • Diploma and ranking: copy of previous diplomas obtained indicating the date, specialty, honors and any other document attesting to the excellence of the candidate.
  • Language certificate or diploma (if applicable)
  • Transcript of records of the last 3 years (in French or in English)
  • In the case of dual degree, the institution must attach the agreement and specify the terms of the dual degree program implemented between the institutions.
  • Professional project in French or in English. This presentation may be supported by a recommendation from people outside your university, for example a company.
  • Program requirements sheet and complete program calendar for the program you wish to enroll in

 

  • DOCTORATE
  • Photocopy of passport containing the information: surname, first name, date of birth and passport number.
  • Curriculum vitae (in French or in English)
  • Diploma and ranking: copy of previous diplomas obtained indicating the date, specialty, honors and any other document attesting to the excellence of the candidate.
  • Language certificate or diploma (if applicable)
  • Professional project in French or in English. This presentation may be supported by a recommendation from people outside your university, for example a company.
  • Presentation of the thesis project and the progress of research, in French or English (1 and 5 pages). This document must accurately present the subject of your thesis, your progress in the writing process, an outline as well as the bibliography.
  • Thesis financing plan
  • Co-supervision agreement or a certificate of co-direction signed by the French and foreign parties

 

Deadline to submit the application: 30 November 2021

3. The DRI will determine if it is possible to apply to the ENS.

4. The DRI will submit your application online on the Campus France website.

5. Publication of results: week of April 4, 2022 on the Campus France website.

Remarks:

- Masters-level candidates currently studying in France are ineligible.

- Doctoral students currently studying abroad have priority over those already residing in France.

Call for applications ENS Group - China Scholarship Council (CSC) Phd program 2022

The Écoles Normales Supérieures (Ulm, Paris-Saclay, Lyon, Rennes) have signed a cooperation agreement with the China Scholarship Council (CSC), which provides funding for 20 PhD students in the ENS group, on the basis of a selection by the ENS and by the CSC.

The selection criteria will take into account the quality of the application, the host laboratory at ENS’ interest in the topic of research, and the existing cooperation with the home university of the candidates.

The scholarship is for a maximum duration of 4 years. Its amount is 1350 €/month.

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Candidates must be citizens and permanent residents of the People’s Republic of China at the time of the application and must not be currently working abroad
  • Successful candidates must return to China upon completion of their PhD studies or after a postdoctoral stay abroad (upon agreement by CSC)
  • Candidates must fulfill the general admission and selection requirements of ENS and doctoral studies department and obtain the agreement of the relevant doctoral school. They must have a good level in English for candidates in science, or in French for candidates in the humanities.
  • Candidates must be accepted by a laboratory supervised by ENS Ulm
  • Candidates must either apply as full PhD students who will obtain an ENS diploma (or an ENS diploma and a Chinese diploma, through co-direction of the project in France and in China) OR visiting PhD students, who will obtain a Chinese diploma and wish to spend a period of time abroad at ENS

Jean Walter Zellidja Research Grants 2022 (Granted by the Académie Française)

 

History

Mr. Jean Walter, an architect, made a donation to the Académie française. These funds are earmarked for travel and study grants for French youth.

Since 1976, these grants have been awarded to students from grandes écoles or universities who, outside of their degree, wish to participate in a different training or pursue personal research through a stay abroad of about a year.

 

Conditions

  • Must be less than 30 years old at the time of the application
  • Must be a doctoral or postdoctoral student at the ENS

  • CV
  • your research project ( 1-2 pages minimum)
  • an invitation letter from the university

Winners are informed by mail of the decision.
